Climbing for a cause: Sarah Ann Curran

Lakeland 7 summits

60 miles in 48 hours for research into Alzheimer’s disease. Sarah Ann Curran, our very own ambassador, has just completed an incredible seven summits challenge. Clocking in at 47 hours and 10 minutes, including a well deserved 7.5 hours of sleep, she totalled just under 60 miles with a staggering 18,000 feet of elevation gain. ‘I want to break down preconceptions and inspire others’, Sarah hasn’t let her disability get in the way of supporting research into Alzheimer's and is determined to spread awareness of a cause close to her heart, whilst showing her strength and ability.

It’s more than just a mountain

“I have taken part in numerous challenges since to fund raise for related charities” Sarah’s Granddad sadly passed away from Alzheimer's during the COVID pandemic, and since then she's been driven by a desire to make a real difference in the fight against this devastating disease, fundraising and raising awareness for the charity, that works tirelessly in Alzheimer research.

For Sarah it's not just about fundraising. It's also about inspiring others – especially people with a disability – to push their boundaries and discover their own strength. She wants to break down preconceptions and show the world that it’s possible with the mindset, determination, and the right support. She’s constantly looking for new ways to challenge herself and go that extra bit further, from marathons, ultra-marathons to hiking the Wainwrights multiple times; including all 214 fells. Donate to Sarah’s cause here.

Getting to this point for Sarah was a hard challenge, it required months of preparation with 60 mile hiking weeks and an elevation gain of over 10,000 feet. We also believe it’s the support that helps you strive and Sarah wasn’t alone, she received amazing support from motivational messages, friends who joined for sections, and met at the finish line.

  • Bridgedale Ambassador Sarah Ann Curran

“I only wear my trusty Bridgedales. 58 miles and no blisters! I have finally found the perfect sock and shoe combo”

Sarah swears by Bridgedales, the little things matter and we want blister free feet so you can embrace the outdoors. Our Fusion Technology is part of what makes this happen with the combination of highest quality natural yarns with high performance microfibers to ensure all day comfort and gear that makes the difference. Sarah describes feeling an overwhelming sense of freedom and strength in the mountains, “I can forget about everything else and just focus on putting one foot in front of the other. In those moments, I am free”.

The outdoors is a place where you can feel most alive, connected, and capable. Sarah’s emotional highlight during the 48 hour hike was summiting Scafell Pike in the clag at five in the morning, going on to explain how no one else being around and at the top of England was breathtaking, even though her legs felt like lead from the previous two days of hiking.

Support our ambassador with her journey and keep an eye on our social media channels. Let's continue to support her incredible fundraising and help inspire others to explore the outdoors.
