Dove Step 2 – a Kindred Journey
We are delighted that this year, as in 2014, our Dove Step journey will be a Kindred one with our feet once again adorned with Bridgedale garms.
Through 300 miles in 13 days last year, our Bridgedales marched 25 miles a day for 13 days. This year and for the second Dove Step journey they will accompany us for 700 miles in 14 days.
This years Dove Step journey comprises a kayak and cycling leg, in addition to the traditional walking effort. We start with a 21 nautical mile kayak over 2 days, then 520 miles cycling in 6 days, before the final 6 days of walking. This effort will take us from Suffolk all the way to the Spanish border. Having walked the UK range of Turtle Doves in 2014 this year, we are starting to mimic the Afro-European migratory route of this beautiful bird.
We commence our journey the weekend of the 18th April and as such the team is in concerted training; racking up paddling time, saddle time and of course maintaining on foot milage.
I love riding in the CoolFusion Run socks; they complement my cycling shoes nicely as they are super warm and comfy for winter milage. I also competed the Leicester Marathon in CoolFusion Runs at the end of October 2014 – a ‘go-to’ sock for endurance.
As well as banging out walking miles in our WoolFusion Trekkers, I love putting a pair on after a cold days paddling. We have training through the winter and will continue to do so; after a couple of capsizes and given the time of year core temperature can drop readily. Getting back to the car as well as cranking up the heater, I dry my feet and pull on a pair of Trekker’s. Bliss!
The Dove Step team are delighted to have Bridgedale’s continued support and confidence. The Dove Step campaign is now synonymous with Bridgedale socks and we couldn’t be happier about this!
You can follow our progress on the Dove Step 2 blog and all funds raised will once again go towards Operation Turtle Dove.
