Dixie Dansercoer Greenland Ice Expedition
Day 30 of the Greenland ICE Expedition has arrived and
we are oh-so-close to the 1000 kilometer milestone.
In the wee hours of this morning, Dixie & Eric
texted a message that couldn’t hide their fatigue, nor their pride. They
advanced another 123 kilometers during the night, stopping to rest at 01:00
their time. This brings them to a total distance of 974.2 kilometers.
To say that we have had a challenging start to this
adventure would indeed be an understatement. The southern crossing was
brutal and the storms were particularly intense. We have been in touch
with some well-known scientists who were in Tasiilaq with us at the start of
the expedition (Rick Forster from the University of Utah among them) and they
have since let us know that most scientific field work in that portion of
Greenland has been stunted by horrific weather conditions.
