Disappointment for Dark Ice Team
Due to many and varied reasons, Alex Hibbert has advised us of the very disappointing news that Dark Ice is not going to be possible this year.
Given that Alex and his team have spent many months preparing for this expedition they aren’t giving up completely and have decided not to come home. They are amongst one of the last truly traditional Inuit communities and have a stockpile of supplies and ambition to match. The plan is to live amongst the Inghuit in Qaanaaq, Qeqertat (a tiny cluster of huts to the east) and the abandoned settlement on Herbert Island and to launch shorter winter journeys in the spirit of Dark Ice.
Alex says “Beyond our physical assets, the team is something I’m inordinately proud of. We are united, hard-working and are enjoying our time together. Not to disappoint those with an appreciation for scale though, we have another trick up our sleeve which will be revealed soon”.
Everyone at Bridgedale wishes Alex and the Dark Ice (www.darkiceproject.com) team every success with their new adventure and we hope to see them all when they are back in the summer
